When will Ed Miliband face facts on wind power, asks Ben Pile. As another key wind farm falls through, leaving his 2030 target in tatters, he must accept that wind power is not getting cheaper; bills are not going down.

It's not 'CSE'. It's child rape, says Joanna Gray. Enough with the sterile acronyms that seem designed to conceal the horror. Enough of the "bewitchment of our intelligence by means of language" (Wittgenstein).

Save Houtan Kian and Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani from execution in Iran‏

category international | rights, freedoms and repression | news report author Wednesday March 02, 2011 19:12author by John Cornford - Hands Off the People of Iran Report this post to the editors

The Iranian regime has sentenced Houtan Kian, (the lawyer of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani), to death by hanging. Houtan Kian was arrested in October 2010 along with Sajjad Ghaderzadeh, Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani’s son, and two German journalists during an interview. The other three have been released, Houtan Kian faces imminent execution. Moreover Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani’s death sentence has been confirmed. Upon hearing the news, it is reported that Sakineh attempted suicide but survived.

Houtan Kian’s only crime has been to defend a woman facing death by stoning. Sakineh’s only crime has been to be a woman in the Islamic Republic of Iran and under Sharia law.

More information on Sakinehs case at: http://www.indymedia.ie/article/97410

Act now: send your protests to the Iranian Embassy and the Iranian regime. Demand that the death sentences be lifted and that Houtan, Sakineh and all political prisoners be released.

Your Excellency

I am writing to ask you to do everything in your power to immediately stop the execution of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani by stoning or by any other means.

In addition, I urge you to stop the execution of Houtan Kian, who appears to be under sentence of death for his brave actions in defending Sakineh.

This insane campaign of victimization is further harming Iran's image in the eyes of people throughout the world

Furthermore, I urge you to limit the use of execution to confirmed psychopathic murderers only. Iran now has a worse image than the USA in it's all too liberal use of this method of punishment. You are helping the state of Israel with it's propaganda campaign against the Islamic world.

I oppose in the strongest possible terms the execution of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani and Houtan Kian by any means, and urge you to commute the death sentences immediately,

Sincerely,

Iran's censorship of the press and outspoken others involved in highlighting this case, as reported, is to be condemned.
