Protest with a difference
A broad range of communities, community and youth organisations, trade unions, cultural groups, students and campaigning organisations from Dublin and beyond are coming together to participate in a Radical Spectacle.
Assemble CITY HALL, Castle St. Dublin 2, 7 pm, Friday 10th December
On December 10th, a broad range of
communities, community and youth
organisations, trade unions, cultural
groups, students and campaigning
organisations from Dublin and beyond
are coming together to participate in a
Radical Spectacle. The heart is literally
being ripped out of our communities
and this affects the country as a whole.
The Spectacle will be an act of Creative
Resistance to the redundant policies of
a redundant regime.
This day is United Nations International Day
of Human Rights around the world and is an
appropriate moment to mobilise.
The Spectacle’s participative, imaginative
and heartfelt approach will demonstrate that
there is another way to a more equal and a
more just Ireland. The Spectacle says STOP
this madness of punishing ordinary people
for the mistakes of others.
STOP RIPPING THE HEART OUT OF
COMMUNITIES.
The Spectacle is a creative invitation to the
people of Ireland to challenge the way things
are being done and to say that we should
move forward by protecting and valuing the
heart of communities in this country.
LET’S START NOW.
Our country needs a radical transformation
based on values of equality, solidarity and
accountability. We want you, your family,
your neighbour and your community to come
to the Spectacle to make this point. We
are asking all groups who are not already
participating to sign up, get on board and get
your groups organised.
The Spectacle starts at City Hall, beside Dublin
Castle at 7pm on Friday 10th December
(groups will gather from 6pm). It will travel
past the Central Bank, up O’Connell Street and
return to the Central Bank via D’Olier Street
with stops for brief performances along the
way.
Show your support by wearing red (shirt, hat,
scarf, etc.). We highly recommend bringing
White heart-shaped Placards with messages
of protest, hope or support rather than Party
Banners or Flags.

Spectacle and need more information contact

STOP TEARING THE HEART OUT OF OUR COMMUNITIES

Assemble CITY HALL, Castle St. Dublin 2
2nd December 2010
Hello everyone,
Beautiful weather, but very hard on the limbs and the older people. If you have not been cut enough already, get ready for the next round on the 7th of December, Budget day! Choices are being made by this government to take care of the rich bankers and bond holders yet they are targeting those on low pay and welfare.
They are literally ripping the heart out of our communities, out of our families and our society. People are sick and tired of hearing all of the bad press coverage. We have something that will appeal to you to get involved and may even be inspired to bring others along. To make this a true spectacle we need you all.
We are organising a spectacle three days following the budget which is International Human Rights Day, in the evening. Communities, families and individuals are taking to the streets in an artful, meaningful form of defiance. Be inspired to have your say by carrying a simple white heart and wearing red. While it may seem like a carnival it is not but it has some characteristics of such – if one puts their minds back to the parade of innocence. We will have floats etc. You can join the spectacle or you can walk behind it in solidarity. It will be a very powerful expression with drumming, voice, dance, Thai Chi, Chiacking on the Liffey and much more.
You may say who is going to hear us and what will change…..well I want to say we have to look to the long-term future and work to put the heart back into our society, create new institutions, build new leadership and bring people who have the values of equality, fairness and justice together also people who care for those on the margins and those in the middle.
Come and join us, wear warm clothes, bring your message, walk, drum, sing in solidarity and beauty! There is a lot of good will out there for this creative event. See attached poster for all details, and you can find our Face book page under ‘Spectacle Defiance’
